Description: The smoking cessation clinic is a comprehensive group program that guides clients to become smoke-free through education, behavioural support and counselling. All while being in a friendly environment! The Virtual program runs over a period of 12 weeks and will be held on Wednesdays at 4:30- 5:30pm. A referral is required from the physician or nurse practitioner.

Other information: We recognize that each person has different needs, motivators and preferences. Clients will have access to a physician and a mental health therapist as an ongoing resource.

Ridge Meadows Smoking Cessation Clinic

Description: This clinic offers small group education. The clinic is set up in the Pulmonary Rehab room at RMH and is free of charge. Individual smoking sessions either in person or virtually are also available if referred by a physician.

Other information: Physician Support: Dr. Francis Ervin (Internal Medicine, Respirology) and Dr. Winston Tsui (Cardiology and Internal Medicine) support and refer patients to the clinic. The clinic accepts physician and self referrals Group Facilitators: The lead facilitator/educator is a Respiratory Therapist, Stacy McNeilly, who is a Certified Tobacco Educator. Her Respiratory colleagues Greg Skeeles, also a Certified Tobacco Educator, and Dave Wallace are also involved in the clinic. Facilitator/Educator Training: Smoking cessation training is required.

At RMH staff under took the following:

  • Certified Tobacco Educator Course (Stacey and Greg)
  • QuitNow full-day workshop conducted David Forbes, Pharmacist (multiple people as 10 were required to run the course)
  • TEACH (Tobacco Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counselling and Health) (Stacey)

What: The Smoking Cessation clinic has been established to support patients and clients in  reducing or quitting smoking as part of their health care journey.

About the clinic:

  • The Smoking Cessation Clinic strives to provide comprehensive evidence-based support throughout the process of smoking cessation, serving patients who are either seeking assistance post-discharge from a health event or are interested in reducing and eventually quitting tobacco use.
